Baguette
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 tbsp yeast
- 1/4 cup warm water
- 1 tspn sugar
- 1 tbsp salt
- 2 cups water
- 8 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 eggwhite
- 1/4 cup cornmeal
Cooking Instructions
- Dissolve yeast in water.
- Create dough by combining sugar, salt, water and 1 cup of flour in a bowl.
- Add yeast-water mix to the dough.
- Add flour to a flat surface and knead the dough on top of it.
- Knead until dough is soft and elastic.
- Line a bowl with a small amount of grease.
- Put the dough in the greased bowl.
- Cover grease bowl with a damp cloth.
- Let the dough rise to twice its original size.
- Punch down the dough to remove the air inside it.
- Divide the dough in halves of equal size.
- Shape the dough into a long cylinder shape tapered at the ends.
- Grease a bread tray and dust with cornmeal.
- Put the dough on the bread tray.
- Cover the bread until it again doubles in size.
- Make diagonal slices on top of the bread.
- Brush the bread with eggwhite.
- Dust the bread with cornmeal.
- Preheat oven to 375°F.
- Bake bread for 20 minutes. You're baguette is now ready!
