It all stars in Africa with this rusty, badly maintained, yet beautifully styled Citroen.
Three men come out of this car into a crowded place and they blow themselves up.
What will be troubling is the technology that they are using.
News does not travel fast, Tony Stark is far away helping to repair a apace shuttle.
Later on, Stark is preoccupied with other things.
The news does eventually come in. It is spotty, no specifics on the tech. All that is known is that it was a near-nuclear explosion. S.H.I.E.L.D. is looking for potential suspects. They find it.
The group is called Advanced Genocide Mechanics an offshoot of A.I.M.. Really? Why didn't they just call themselves 'Come And Get Me I'M Dangerous'?
S.H.I.E.L.D. prepares to hit this cell. Stark, as Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. wants Iron Man in on the raid.
Iron Man consults Pepper before he goes. She knows about his tryst with Ms. Whats-Her-Name and she lets Stark know she is a bit jealous.
Iron Man is paranoid about his technology falling into the wrong hands. He's worried about all the other Iron Men starting something so he keeps tabs on them via a database called Armormap.
Everyone on the database wasn't in Africa at the time.
The operation against A.G.M. goes smoothly. Iron Man and S.H.I.E.L.D. mop the floor with these guys.
Pepper is helping with the analysis of the African bombing. Looks like she's using pretty cutting edge tech herself.
Pepper connfirms Tony's worst fears - it is Stark technology that has been used in the bombing.
A subplot in this issue involves Ezekiel Stane. He duped financiers. Using there money to create this level tech.
And yes, Stane has 'repaid' those financiers by killing them.
And so goes the first issue of this new Iron Man series.
