This is the story arc that made Levitz and Giffen legends in the Legion community. |
Little did DC - or anybody else, for that matter - know, that when they guested Lightning Lad, Saturn Girl, and Cosmic Boy in an issue of Superboy it would be the start of an enduring DC franchise. The Legion of Super-Heroes have since become cornerstones of the DC canon - both pre and post New 52. We like the 30th and 31st centuries so much that DC decided that the stories would keep on flowing. I initially just loved the sheer-size of the Legion and I loved the space-wide scope of their adventures. The Legion was a big team that did big things. Paul Levitz took a popular team and made them legendary stars. Somewhere in the thousands of published Legion comics you will find the image of Paul Levitz in an unintroduced cameo. But there he is - and deservedly so. I loved that Colossal Boy was truly colossal, I loved the sheer visual impact of Legion foes the Fatal Five, I love the risque outfit of the female legionnaires, and the tragic romantic Legionnarie known as Wildfire who is my favorite Legionnaire of all time. The legend has gone beyond the comics pages. Fans of the LSH can now pick up non-comics merchandise to announce their admiration. Want a LSH flight ring? You can have one right now, just don't try to fly with it, of course. Still, I'm crossing my fingers for a working model to be available sometime. It's time to celebrate all our shared adventures with the LSH. |
